You are welcome to start at any time. As I said, though, I welcome commentary from anyone, not just active players. I actually do award RP experience... but haven't had grounds to do so in this iteration thus far. I also have no qualms about allowing creative solutions to what could be straight combat challenges... but hey, bashing your way through them is also an option, which is why the combat engine exists. What you can do in this game is limited only by what you can think up, but as the GM, I can't in good conscience allow any old nonsense to go on here. That's why the really outlandish stuff never goes quite as planned.

Is it too late to change characters?
For example, Becket or Tourette from Vampire Bloodlines? Or Japas the bass player of the the Indigo-Gos? Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher? Revan from Knights of the Old Republic? Perhaps even pick up the eponymous Bard again (or for real this time)?

You could. I'd prefer if you didn't, and other than the Bard, I haven't played any of those games (except the first KOTOR, and that was only for 5 minutes) so you'll probably wind up in the same situations as last time...

Japas and the Indigo-Gos are notable for their classic hit, "The Ballad of the Wind Fish."

Whoops... ^^;; I never realized I actually had coins. I guess I got too wrapped up in the devil kid RP thing. I would have played a little different at the shop had I realized that. ;>.> Sorry Draxas.

Japas and the Indigo-Gos are notable for their classic hit, "The Ballad of the Wind Fish." Ah shoot. That's a pretty obscure character, but obviously I've played MM before. For some reason, I had thought you were talking about a completely different game. I could draw him up pretty easily since he wouldn't be all that different from Miaku in terms of abilities. But do you really hate Ed that much? No worries. RP is RP, and it's not like anyone would know to call you out on it.

Thanks for being so understanding. I know some people would not be so forgiving in RP about stuff like that. I hope the solution I suggested is ok though. I don't mean to always be comic relief but I do enjoy humorous situations.

It's not that I hate Ed, it's just that, in hindsight, he's too generic of a character. Since neither of us has any experience with him or the setting he may as well just be random Joe Schmoe -- I feel no attachment to his persona and find it difficult being creative with him. For that matter, it's like role-playing a genre, rather than a character.
Obscure as Japas may be, like you said, it can easily be assumed that he would have the same skill set as Mikau / Zora Link. Although, the biggest issue I would see is that, beyond fish-style martial arts and chucking fin-a-rangs at people, most of the zora specialty is underwater stuff. That magic damaging shield thing, for example, only works underwater -- other than that it's mostly maneuverability stuff.
What might be nice is if he could use his bass as a weapon -- either melee clobbering or blasting enemies with sonic death.

I would use the bass as a core element for an entire skill tree, just as with Link and Sheik in Iteration 1: Songs. His set might not be as extensive as theirs, however. That basically relegates it to an important accessory.
Having a bunch of underwater-only skills is a bit problematic, but nothing that can't be compensated for fairly easily. I could definitely see him working fairly well.
As far as "playing a genre," well, that's kind of survival horror in a nutshell. Almost every single protagonist in an SH game is interchangeable with any other, and it would be difficult or impossible to notice a difference. Is Ed much different than Leon from RE, or the people in Silent Hill or Dino Crisis or Obscure? Not really.

Is Ed much different than Leon from RE, or the people in Silent Hill or Dino Crisis or Obscure? Not really. Exactly. There's no point to being that specific character since he serves as a basic, generic archetype, and if the goal is to characterize him more than he actually gets in his games, then it would be more effective to just write a piece of fan fiction, which would serve no one else's purpose but my own, and I have no real use for the characterization (nor does the character, if you ask me). The whole point of a structured game like this is to work within the confines of the rules and the medium, like writing a haiku for example, but I would need much more freedom in order to actually do what I want to do with that character. It would be much more easy and acceptable for me to work within the set confines with a character who has a more established personality, game world, and skill set. Come to think of it, JC Denton might be a good candidate.

What's the verdict on Japas? I'd sincerely like to give this another shot to determine if it's just me, or if I just picked a bad character.

I'll give it a whirl when I have some time, if you really want to shift characters.

All right, it's been quite a while since the last update, and I feel I owe you all an apology again.
Unfortunately, this message is being posted to announce that Clash is going to be on official hiatus (as opposed to the "unofficial, but way too busy to update" kind it was on previously) for a while. My wedding is this Sunday, so you might understand why I haven't been able to keep up.
Once we come back from the honeymoon, I'll be sure to get this rolling again. The game is not dead by any means, and once I return, I'll have a big update (and a couple of new character profiles for N3B) headed you way.
