Carlop declined to reply, but after several more minutes of mining, he tossed the last chunk of ore into the cart.
"All done," he said, "Now let's get this back topside."

Ranger assisted the miner pushing the cart along side him to get it back out of the cave.

On the way up out of the mine, Carlop stopped to talk with a younger fellow who seemed to be milling around. However, once they finished their conversation, the young man headed out of the mine ahead of them at a fairly brisk run.
"He's one of our messengers," he explained, "I'm having him bring word back to the guild that your job is finished."
They reached the exit of the mine a few minutes later, and brought the cart over to the same machine McKenzie had used earlier.
"Thanks again for your help," he said to Ranger, as he wiped the sweat from his brow, "It was messy, but a job well done. Your pay should be waiting for you at the guild. Have a good journey!"

Arriving at the mines Ranger looked for McKenzie and when he found him asked him if he still wanted company for the mines.

McKenzie half-scowled at Ranger's approach, but heard him out nonetheless.
"Hrm, playing both sides ta tha middle, eh?" he responded, obviously still in an ill humor, "Still, it beats working one o' tha dead veins with nothin' left. Wha didja have in mind for this trip, then?"

"Hey, if it's any kind of conselation prize to ya while I was in the mine with Carlop we were attacked by a lot of bats and he came out covered in their poop," Ranger said with a chuckle,"I say we go and hit one of the good mines in the often not travelled areas but I can't remember what choices we have..."

McKenzie chuckled at the idea of his rival covered in bat guano.
"Serves im right," he said, not even trying to contain his mirth, "Yah're all right, kid. I woulda liked ta have seen tha for myself."
"Anyway," he continued, extracting the map from his pocket, "We've still got three spots tha look good."
He pointed to each location on the map in turn as he mentioned them, "This passage is tha one tha's infested with goblins. This one is a bat nest. An' this one is just plain dangerous, but nobody knows wha's inside. So, whaddya say?"

"Let me deal with the goblin scoundrels while you get your haul and this one's for free cause I owe ya for earlier," Ranger said.

McKenzie raised an eyebrow at Ranger's offer.
"That's tha best price I ever been quoted," he said skeptically, "Yah're not serious, are yah?"

"Hey, yah're the boss, then," responded McKenzie, and shrugged, "I'm not going ta FORCE you ta take money. All right, then, come on an' help me with tha cart."

Ranger helped push the cart into the cave down the path to the deep cavern where there were reports of Goblins

As they entered the deeper reaches of the mice, McKenzie lit up his helmet lamp to provide some light, and before too much longer, they arrived in the same cavern that they had mined out before.
"This is it," whispered McKenzie, "You know what's going ta happen when I start working, right? So just let me know when yah're in position and ready to go."
The miner headed for one of the walls, and readied his pick, awaiting the signal.
