The Nexus
Soma would be promptly awoken by Yoko. "Come on, Soma. It's time."
As the group filed out and down the stairs, they'd be treated to quite the sight. The entirety of the Nexus was alight with a brilliant glow...the six stones around the lower staircase each looked to have been ripped open, offering a somewhat hazy view into another world. In the middle of the chamber, standing atop a support that stretched between two sides of this lower semicircular staircase, stood Kokonoe, looking more than a little proud of her work. Her arms were folded across her chest, a grin open across her face, while Tager worked on something off to the side of the room.
"Mornin', kids. Hope you're ready for a trip."

The unexpected light show shook the last motes of sleep from Soma's mind. He peered into the vista shown, searching for any sign of recognition.
"What exactly are we looking at here?" he asked. He had a pretty good idea that he was probably about to be pressed into interdimensional errand boy service.

The Nexus
"Where, exactly? I don't know." Kokonoe pops lollipop she's carrying briefly in her mouth as she motions around the room. "I have a plan to fight back against these creatures, but we need to act quickly. The others are currently down below, fending off invaders. I've determined that you lot are best suited to this task. I can spare one more body from the defense...but I'm sending Tager to assist you for this first venture. After that, take whoever you want, I don't care." She begins pacing around the room, passing by each of the obvious portals. The first appears to be a large, battle-scarred green field. A huge castle can be seen towards one side of it, and in a forest towards another side of the field you can see a large, ornate temple of some kind jutting out from above the trees. The second looks to be a city like some kind of dark ideal of the 1920s in America...tall buildings, bustling streets, and rather bizarre fashion. The third looks upon a gorgeous marble structure...definitely Greek or Roman of some kind. The pillars are a dead giveaway, as is the large marble statue overlooking a courtyard and fountain. The fourth portal shows a cobblestone-street city, squat, lit by lanterns on posts and a low lying moon. Docks can be seen a short distance away. The fifth portal displays a gorgeous, stark white room accented with gold, with a large, crystalline-looking white tree jutting up from the center of it. It LOOKS sterile, even through a rip in reality. The sixth and final portal in the room looks upon a large and ramshackle tower, seemingly constructed of stretched and stacked parts of different buildings, a full moon hovering high overhead. The entire thing looks foreboding, like some harbinger of death.
"For the first part of this plan...I will need you to collect items of power from these worlds. Items generally can't defend themselves, so they're at the greatest risk of being lost to the void. I can't tell you what these worlds are like, or even what you'll be looking for there until you can set up a scanner on the other side of the portal...which will also serve to facilitate communication. Tager will show you how to set one up. Just try to find someplace out of the way where you can get a signal."

"So, you don't know where we're going, what we're trying to retrieve, or who might be waiting for us on the other side," Soma quipped, though his gaze remained transfixed on the last portal and the image within, "That's just perfect."
He couldn't shake the feeling of wrongness from that tower, that it shouldn't exist. Even just looking at it across worlds, he could feel the essence of chaos emanating off of it in his soul, a blight on reality that seemed to even subtly shift and change whenever his gaze wasn't fixed directly on it. The only other time he had felt that was while he was inside the realm of chaos itself, struggling for dominance over the soul of Dracula inside a patchwork world that the essence of chaos at the heart of Castlevania had thrown in his way in order to defend itself and bring forth its master. To feel that same feeling across the unfathomable gulf between worlds... He shuddered slightly as he was finally able to tear his eyes away.
"Sounds like fun," he smirked, looking to Tager instead, "When and where do we start?"

As Tommy looked at each setting, the city caught his attention. It was the close thing he'd seen to something familiar since he'd left Angel Grove. "I've led a lot of missions...taken my team through a lot of battles...but we've always had Intel. Still...desperate times..." He trailed off. He seemed to be thinking as he fiddled with his white tiger power coin...then he looked up. "Alright, I'm in. Show us how to run your scanner and let's get moving."

The blue canine strode around the room cautiously looking into the portals. He could sense auras in every one. He wondered what these worlds were. How this worked. And he wondered if he might somehow be able to use aura to create these portals. Before he realized, he was tentatively holding out a paw, almost touching the portal, feeling the buzz of power coming from it. Tommy's comment snapped him from his revery and he pulled his paw back as he watched the others quietly, waiting for them to decide where to go. He had no preference. None of these worlds appeared to be his.

The Nexus
Kokonoe scowled a bit towards Tommy. "Desperate doesn't even begin to describe it..." She paused as something else seemed to catch her attention for a bit, then spat out "[CENSORED]!" She walked over to Orihime, grabbing her by the arm. "Come on, girl, my calculations were off. They need you to help defend this place. Sorry you three. Tager! Show them how the beacon works on the other side, get moving!"
She took Orihime off, leaving the three of you and the red giant left in the main chamber of the Nexus. He reached up and pushed up his glasses, clearing his throat. "Well, I apologize for that. Select one of the portals, and we can be on our way."

Soma glanced sidelong at the last portal again, but said, "Wherever you'd like to start is fine with me. If one of these would be simpler to accomplish than the rest, maybe we should start there to get our bearings first."

"I'd prefer the city. Seems like that might be pretty critical."
