very true.
compression will not make you sound 70 watts louder than you actually are. it'll tidy up your technique/volume niggles a little when used, but it won't make you louder. unless you play with the softest touch in the world.

I should also put in a little side note saying that I get fantastic tone/volume out of my $200 Peavy keyboard amp.

cheap combo keyboard amps and bass amps are technically very very similar. and i get a brilliant guitar and keyboard tone out of my bass amp, heh.

Did some looking around and ordered a Little Big Muff. Seemed like it has good ratings for being good quality for a relatively cheap price.

it's a nice little fuzz box. best muff for bass, anyway.
i'm on the market for an epic reverb. need to look around some more.
planning for my guitar board to go tuner -> volume -> wah -> flange -> delay -> epic verb and bass to go tuner -> flange -> overdrive -> DI maaaybe use a volume pedal + digital delay with the bass.. not sure.

Well now I feel like an idiot because it apparently didn't come with a cable to plug it into the amp or a power supply adapter >

heh yeah you'll need another cable. and i think you can run LBMs off a 9 volt battery, so you cooould do that for the time being. but since you're in america you can grab a 1spot power supply for cheap.

Yeah, it's a got 9v battery in it (I just un-screwed it and checked), but I still lack the damn input cable to use it. I'll probably go to a music store tomorrow and buy a cheap cable (and a power adapter), and just stare at the LBM lutsfully until then.

I think I'm getting Guitar Acquisition Syndrome or whatever again. I'm now feeling tempted to get a sleek picollo bass (or get a replacement "standard" 4-string and string-up my old one as a picollo bass) o.O
I noticed in the Warriors of the World video that DeMaio's got a ridiculously narrow bass neck and had to figure out what that was all about. Wasn't sure if it was particularly narrow or if I was just so accustomed to having the super-wide 6-string neck.

that is quite narrow actually.. probably for his over the top bass wankery. my necks a chunky bastard, makes for a good tone.
