Look Lament, I understand you have a lot of respect for those guys. From my short bit of experience with them, I can't muster any of the same.
I was alerted to the existance of the PDBA back in August when N3B posted a topic in the PD forum on Gamefaqs. Almost immediately, several of the "legends" from Alien Gate began to badmouth him, along with posting the link for the "real" PDBA. That was strike one.
I lurked as a guest in both PDBAs for a short time. The folks here tend to be respectful and supportive (for the most part) of newcomers. Not so at Alien Gate, where once again anyone who hasn't been involved from the beginning is immeditaely branded a n00b and treated like dirt. Strike two.
Quite frankly, that's 2 strikes too many for me anyway. Trust me, I'm grateful for the fact that some of those guys thought up this concept, and made the PDBA what it is today. But that doesn't give them the right to be elitist and exclusionary. Their attitude reminds me of the Goldeneye and PD Elites, they have the "World Record Times" for those games (whoopie-doo, that and a quarter *might* get you a cheap cup of coffee), and by all that's holy, they're going to MAKE SURE that you know they're SO much better than you.
I guess it's different for me, since I wasn't in this from the beginning, or at least, anywhere near as long as most of the others here and at Alien Gate. But respect is something that you have to EARN, not something given freely because once upon a time, before I ever met you, you had a good idea. And nobody ever earned any respect by being an elitist snob.
