it'd be PDBA-style, where you role-play your character through a world. like, you can build a hut, fight monsters, get quests to go on from the "quest master" (most likely me), go into bars, talk to people, etc.
you'd get exp from quests, and with the exp you'll be able to turn portions of it into gold, or invest to equip a better weapon. money could be used to buy weapons from "the quest master", and you'd use the exp (meaning it'd be gone afterwards) to be able to use an item. once "used" you can always use that weapon. of course you'll get weapons as rewards for quests, as well as EXP and money.
any think this might be an interesting thing to try, or at least give suggestions for it? definately would NOT be a hack, PDBA-stlye A-RPG. (alternate RPG)

Seems like a cool idea, kinda like the one on Notesurfer's board. I would've signed up there if it had been active in the past few months...
Anyway, what sort of world can we expect for this? Medieval style, modern, ultra-modern, or maybe something else?
Would what goes on here have any impact on the other arenas, or would this be stand-alone?
Looking forward to it!

definately stand alone.
most likely do it set midevil eras, but for some reason you'd be able to buy PD weapons / earn them at some point as like "uber weapons".
this would be simmilar to what Note has, except different. battles would be simpler; you wouldn't have to have the overlord being like "Draxas does 14 damage to the Worm. The worm misses Draxas" or whatever. That would only happen in quests, against obstacle monsters. users can PDBA-style role play a battle with a random monster / animal that is within their limits to attack on their own.
i can make maps in Photoshop, make a bestiary, all sorts of cool stuff. i'd need at least one other overlord to dish out quests and be the "judge" during quests. especially so that if an "overlord" wants to play they can't bend the rules or whatever.

Volunteers for "overlord" post, if you'll take me on.
From the way you describe it, the world sounds a bit "Final Fantasy"-ish, with a random mix of technologies. Accurate, or am I way off?
Seriously, it does sound like a neat idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

It would be real fun if someone could make a SNES ROM with RPG maker or something with all of us as sprites, and we could choose which character to play as, get an element kind of thing, and start off with the most basic weapon in your PDBA arsenal, Final Fantasy with magic and a mix of firearms and meelee weapons.. Just an idea. Hehehehe. We should send an E-Mail to Squaresoft for their new PS2 or GBA game!

this is something i have thought of many a time. If I had time I would do it, but check out RPG-toolkit. You could make it CISOD style, with all of the characters available, each specializing in different attack types.

You could have an RPG style thing, like, all us people who were at this site at the start, and the vets, like: N3B Niff Notesurfer Phoenix Razor Ranger Golden Magnum Snake I suck at remebering things.
Us peeps can be like the "Heroes of ____" and all be different elements, apart from N3B (more on that later).
And we make up a whole history of us defeating a giant bad dude, and the new people of the PDBA - Draxas Merlin Syxpac Jackson Garrant Damn my stupid brain
Can be the characters you select from in the game at the start, and all us vets can be "Fate Cards" kinda thing, where you assign 3 cards to your hand, and each card has a special meaning. Then there are extra cards that you buy at mystic shops, say status healing cards, healing cards, powerboost cards and affect all cards (more on those later too). Say if I just played myself (thunder elemental) it would do a bolt attack at a lower Fate level, thunderblast or thunderstorm attack at a higher Fate level.
N3B could be the "summon" card, where if I play him combined wih myself it would summon Quetzalcoatl (thunder aztec or mayan god) at a lower Fate level or that huge cool mofo Thor (greek or something god of thunder) to attack the enemy. Then for the third card or whatever, you could choose a "Powerboost" card, which increases the summon or spell's attack power by +(your fate level) damage. So say if Notesurfer was... Ice elemental, it would summon Shiva or something ice related.
All of these spells only hit one enemy at a time, so for summons you could put in an "Affect All" card for more than one enemy, or just boost it up with a "Powerboost" card. So that means you could add in the Niff card, with Affect All and Powerboost to make it a normal spell with a devastating hit all attack. Summons always do 2x the damage of normal spells, but take up 2x the normal mana to cast.
Then there can be healing cards too, so it would affect everything the same as other cards. Powerboost means more healing power, affect all means it.. affects all. But, if you add in the summon card, it means that it will be 2x more healing with just as much mana use as a normal spell, since healing cards take no mana but disappear after a use, it will summon some kind of fairy/druid healing dude/dudette.
Status healing would be the same as normal hp healing, except affect all would be the only card to combine to it.
Mana points will be used for casting spells. All the vet cards you start off with use a set amount of mana to use each. If you add in summons, it uses 2x the normal mana. All the cards you buy or collect from dead carcasses - status healing, healing, affect all and powerboost, do not use mana, but are stackable and disappear after one use.
Then when you beat the game, you can reinact the story of what us vets did to make us all powerful legends of history. That is until we figure out the bad guys and story and time setting and weapons and all the other mumbo jumbo for the first characters anyway! *sigh*
See what happens when you get boring classes at school?
I'll figure out the melee combat, weapons, stat boosting, status ailments and stuff tomorrow. Then on with the story.
Also Razor, where do you get RPG toolkit from?

Lament's actually older to the PDBA than me, razor, phoenix, majora, etc.
he was one of those guys from the beginning, he's only just now showing up here.

i'll consider things. i'll definately make a comittee of people interested in making a PDBA-style RPG, and we can work out something spectacular. i've got alot of ideas written out on notebook paper that i can type later this week.
I've got to finish my science project report in 2 days, i've tested and haven't actually written anything.
If you are really interested in having a PDBA-style RPG, post in this topic that you'd like to help work on it, and i'll PM you and tell you if you'll be allowed in the comittee (there'll be a board for this, so that no "secrets" get let out until it's made).

I'll help out on this. I think there was a proboards before that used the RPG elements for the story.
Also, I think it would be cool to have "jobs" like from FFXI, FFV, or FFT. To not use the names, there could be like healer, nuker, swordsman, master (like monk or blackbelt), archer, etc. Anyway, I'll help in any way that I can.
And Niff, you forgot my name! :-P
