Expos 101 or 103? I took 103; the guy I had was all about 60's style activism. He was a non-tenured professor, and apparently felt persecuted by the University, and often took the time in class to go on long tirades against the injustices he felt were being levied on students and teachers alike. Suffice to say, he was nothing if not predictable; the best way to boost your score on one of his papers was to include in your arguments a reference to his "cause du jour." Also, he really liked Foucault. I despise Foucault, and will never read anything authored by him again if I can help it. 101, I didn't even know there was a such thing as 103. My teacher was a British woman who, despite my AP Literature score of 3, said that my papers lacked cohesion and, in two of them, called my style "schitzophrenic." However, she maintained that they were well-written, and said of my final that it was among the best of the class. Since grades in Expos 101 are based off of your improvement, my six papers looked like this: C+ C+ C+ C+ B B And a "Pass" on my final, giving me a B for the course. I'm pleased with it, I just wish there were B-s.

The grading curve was similar for 103, which I believe might be only available to science majors or something? That's not what I thought at the time, but maybe that's how it works, but then a lot of people I went to classes with had to take 101... Beats me how it works. All I know is that I only had to take Expos for 1 semester (enjoy 102, by the way : , and for the second semester of the writing requirement, I took Scientific & Technical Writing, a much more interesting and useful course, at least for what I was doing (and still do today). Anyway, as I recall, my scores for the semester on my paper started off with a D (along with everyone else in the class; we hadn't learned to suck up to the prof's ego yet). I spend a few papers in the C and C+ range, and then moved into the B and B+ range. I think I wound up with a B+ in the course in the end. I don't think anyone actually got an A; he was one of those obnoxious types that "doesn't give As." Pretentious little...
