"Ricky seems nice is Irons attentive enough to attack me if I go try to talk to him?" Ranger said with a tidbit of concern tinging his voice.

"You actually would want to go back there?" asked Stone incredulously. He clearly seemed to think Ranger was insane.
"Look, here's my advice: Do what everyone else around here does, and stay the hell away from Irons and his farm. The man is nothing but trouble, especially for you. Do you actually think he's going to haul you back here if he catches you again? Not after that fiasco before, he won't; he's more likely to just put that bolt in your head this time, and use your body for compost. Whatever you think you might be able to accomplish there, it's not worth getting killed over."

"I feel sorry for the kid I want to help him. I guess I probably need to beef up a bit more before I go back though so that I can stand toe to toe with the old man," Ranger looked down at his boots. He looked up at stone with a grimace then as he remembered something.
"The old codger still has my bow," Ranger said suddenly with great worry.

Sgt. Stone groaned in reply.
"I'll send someone over there to fetch it, but I hope you're not too attached to it. Knowing Irons, it probably won't come back in one piece, if it comes back at all."
"As for Ricky, just leave it alone. If he wanted to leave, or get help, he would have done it already. He's been his father's sole helper for the better part of 12 years now, so I'd have to say he knows what he's doing."
"Still, if you really want to talk to him, he does come into the city every now and again. If I see him, I'll let him know. But don't go back to the farm, no matter how tough you think you are; Irons is one of the toughest SOBs around. But, that's just my advice. I can't stop you, if you want to throw your life away."

"I've got to go Stone thank you for all the help,", Ranger said with a beat look on his face, "I know there is something that needs to be done and I am sure you do too, but we have no way of doing it so I will go with you on this. I need to get to the mine and hope that I get enough of a good haul to buy another bow..."

"Hold on there, I've got something else we need to discuss," said Stone, as Ranger began to stand.
"I realize you didn't complete the job from the guild for us in the manner laid out, but you still should have come back here. You know that Schmidt dragged your unconcious rear back to town himself? You should have at least thanked him for it."
"Enough with the morality lesson, though. My point is that the information that Schmidt brought back was very valuable indeed, even if he didn't have the right number of talismans, and I know you were mostly responsible for figuring that out. I wanted to thank you for that, but they told me that you skipped town pretty quickly."
"Well, anyway, I'm going to dispatch a messenger for your equipment. I suppose if you're lucky, it might still be intact. If we can't get it back, though, come see me; I'm sure we can scrounge up something for you from the armory."

"Thanks Stone and sorry," Ranger said with a bit of guilt,"Tell Schmidt thanks for the help. I was going to come back when I was strong enough to go back out there and finish the job. I was ashamed of being taken by those goblins."
Ranger shook Stone's hand and began to go for the door.

"Good luck, and be careful out there," said Stone, as they shook hands, "Be sure to drop by soon to see if we were able to get your weapon back."
Ranger left the barracks, and returned to the town square. He noticed as he passed that people had a tendency to point and whisper to their friends; it seemed that the incident earlier had earned him some degree of fame.

Ranger stepped back into the square ignoring glances and words mumbled about him as he walked towards Stone.
"Have your men returned from Iron's farm yet," He said with a look on his face that made it seem like he were more afraid for them than his bow now.

Sgt. Stone chuckled in response.
"Yeah, they're back," he said, producing a bow and quiver of arrows and handing them over, "And nobody even got hurt. Seems the lads walked up on Irons just as he was about to start a bonfire with your weapon. Luckily, they reminded him that he could be jailed for not only stealing property, but also destroying it. He handed it over; I imagine it was a pretty serious blow to his pride. Cheers," he said, giving a mock salute, "That's twice in one day, and heaven knows that man could use some more humbling!"

"Always glad to humble a man who's a bit over the top," Ranger said with a great smile to Stone,"Just glad you sent the right men for the job. Thanks for the help and I'll probably be back later to help some more with your goblin problem."

Sgt. Stone grinned, and said, "I look forward to it. You're all right in my book, kiddo. Good luck in whatever you're heading off to do."

"Thanks Stone I'll see ya around later," Ranger said as he turned toward the exit to the wilds once more determined to not have his spirit crushed.

Ranger walked into the square and across it to Stone.
"Hello again Sargeant," Ranger said cheerily, "I have some information about something just out of town that I thought you should know about. I was walking a little off the path on the road to Lesko steering clear of Iron's farm and came across a big area of dead grass. I decided to check it out and found a few of these," Ranger said while pulling out one of the plants.
"There is a bunch of these little ones and a huge one in the center of them," Ranger explained.

"Humm," responded the sergeant as he examined the remains of the plant, "I've never seen anything like this before. You say you found it near Lesko? Because it's certainly not something that grows around these parts."
"You may want to ask around with folks who study plants... But I don't think you'll find anyone like that in this town. Try asking around in Lesko first; since you found it near there, maybe someone there knows what it is."
