Welcome, heroes, villains, and videogame characters of all shapes, sizes, and ages! And welcome to the Clash of Realities!
In the various universes that make up videogames, things tend to be fairly predictable. Certain things are expected to happen, and most things tend to revolve around the lives and activities of the elite few, known as "heroes" and "villains." Events in the average life in one of these universes tends to be contingent on what those heroes and villains are doing at any given moment, and most of the interesting things that occur in these universes can be directly traced to the activities of a member of one of the two categories. In fact, in some universes, even the sun will fail to set until the heroes decide they wish to rest...
But a question lingers in the minds of a select few. What happens if the walls between universes get breached? What happens to a universe that is suddenly devoid of heroes or villains? What sort of influence can these heroes and villains have in a universe that they don't belong in, and don't understand? Unbeknownst to those that will soon answer this question, the fabric of reality is beginning to tear... And already the process has begun...

MITSURUGI
Long and far, Mitsurugi had wandered. Across the length and breadth of China he had searched, following every rumor that could possibly lead to the legendary blade, the Soul Edge. Every tavern had some old man who knew the story, and usually someone had information to sell... and old scores to settle. Mitsurugi had defeated countless foes in his quest, but still the blade could not be found. However, his latest tip had led him back to Japan. Back to his home that he had not seen in so many long years, but he had no time for reminiscing. He could remember the old times when he had the Soul Edge in his grasp, but for now...
His last informant had spoken of a shrine, high in the mountains. A shrine said to be plagued by the spirits, and guarded by a warrioress who could cleave the very soul from a man's body with her blade. Mitsurugi wondered if at long last, this woman had the sword he sought, and kept that thought in his head as he ascended the final set of stairs, leading to the dais where the shrine's altar lay.
As Mitsurugi approached the altar, a voice, feminine in nature, seemed to emanate from everywhere, and yet nowhere...
"You! Samurai! You stand on hallowed ground! What is your purpose here?"

SHEIK
It had been a long and grueling journey, but finally, the destination was in sight. Sheik stood in this calm area of the desert, surrounded by cliffs and sandstorms of horrifying intensity on all sides. She had waited for so long, and journeyed so far, all to ensure that the Hero of Time would be prepared for his task. She was thankful she had not been discovered by any of Ganondorf's agents for these seven long years, and even more thankful that finally, at long last, Hyrule's nightmare would soon be over. The Colossus held the key to unlocking the final sage, and Link was on his was through the desert even now... She had no time to lose.
Sheik set out over the dunes using an irregular pace and footfall rhythm to avoid disturbing the leevers that lurked below the shifting sands, and carefully kept watch on all sides. The bulk of the Colossus loomed before her, but she could see a small black shape headed her way from that very direction, soaring through the air. A guay, she thought, Hardly much of a threat, but I must be cautious... She readied a fistful of needles as she moved, and prepared to drive the nasty little bird away with a torrent of steel. She readied her throw as the creature began to swoop downward... And just as she was about to release her throw, stumbled over a very small, easily overlooked rock jutting slightly out of the sand. The needles flew wide of their target as Sheik took several heavy steps to keep her balance, sending the guay angrily squawking up into the air to prepare for another dive. But the damage was done, the vibrations felt, and a pair of small red leevers burst from the sand several feet from her, and began to spin their way towards her, even as the guay corrected its flight and began to dive toward her again.
Sheik readied her knife, cursing her poor luck, and prepared to fight...

JIM RAYNOR
The battle was vicious. Hundreds of Marines and Protoss warriors had died on this god-forsaken orbital platform. Kerrigan had chosen a good location to make her final stand, but it had not been good enough. She had been slowly beaten back, the hordes of Zerg creatures cut down by the three allied forces. But the price had been high. The armies from Earth had been all but wiped out, and only a small number of scattered troopers and tanks remained on well fortified positions on artifical hills. Their generals had abandoned those poor souls to their fate after their last command center was overrun... The Protoss had not fared much better. Few of their warp gates still functioned, and many were heavily damaged. But it was enough. Raynor's marines and tanks, plus the Protoss aircraft, working in concert, had surrounded Kerrigan's position, stymied her advance, and destroyed her defenses. Now only the central Hive, and Kerrigan herself, remained. And despite the fact that he knew it was hopeless, that her humanity was gone, and that she alone controlled the swarms that stood against them, he knew he couldn't give up. He had to try, one last time. And so here he was, leading the final push against the last of Kerrigan's forces.
He, along with a small squad of Marines, slogged through the sludgy mess that their scientists had dubbed "the Creep." It was disgusting, a pervasive biomass that was secreted by the hideous Zerg Hives and Colonies, and covered nearly any stationary surface it came into contact with. His team pressed forward through the mire, as the toothy spires of Kerrigan's primary Hive began to loom before them.
Quite suddenly, a scream pierced the airwaves of their commlinks. Raynor whirled about, rifle at the ready, and saw a small knot of Zerglings pull down Hendrikson, who had been guarding the rear. Dammit! Why didn't I bring air support! he berated himself, knowing full well that the Zerglings had been buried underneath the surface, and had sprung up behind them. He dashed closer to get a better shot at the Zerg, as their Field Medic, Torres, ran behind the bulk of the Marines for protection. Poor girl, this is her first combat assignment, and she didn't even get issued a weapon... Raynor raced to the fore, even as the Zerglings turned on the remainder of the squad, and the troopers opened fire...

DURAN
Things had been so confusing since the Red Wizard had shown up. Why couldn't life be simple, like it was before? Back then he knew he was the best. Everyone else knew it too. Nobody could match his skill with the blade. But then that insolent mage had shown up. From Altena, no less! The gall! And he had been humbled, for the first time since he had been a youth. His magic was too strong, and Duran couldn't land a blow...
He snapped out of his reverie as the captain of the small ship he was on called to him. He moved closer so he could hear over the flapping of the sails.
"...Got company, sir knight!" the old captain shouted, as his crew bustled about. Duran was having trouble hearing him even still. "If you know what's good for ye, ye'll get below deck and stay quiet! I don't want no trouble, and I think they be lookin' fer ye!"
Duran called to the captain, "Who?"
Again the reply was difficult to hear over the noise. "It be them blasted Beastmen, in one of their little raiding scows! They'll not detain a trade ship like mine fer long, so long as I bribe 'em nice-like, but if they find an armed warrior aboard, they're as like to kill ye, and me too! So get below!"
Duran pondered what Beastmen would be doing on this route, as he decided whether to follow the old man's advice.

Upon hearing the feminine voice echoing through the shrine, Mitsurugi quietly but promptly halted his advance, leaving only a small plume of dust flowing from his footsteps. Mitsurugi showed no change of facial expression and did not turn his head to look around, only shifting his eyes left and right once. No person seemed to be within eyeshot, so he closed his eyes calmly to let his ears do the sensing. "I request the presence of this ground's headmistress," Mitsurugi responded with an air of cold, but soothing circumstance.

MITSURUGI
Mitsurugi hears a soft tap on the paving stones as a pair of feet hit the ground behind him. A split second later, a sharp point of metal brushes his neck lightly. The same feminine voice whispers near his ear.
"You defile this holy place with your very presence, and the spirits grow restless! What is it you could possibly seek in this shrine to the dead? I expect you will have a better answer this time."

RAZIEL
The hunger was always there, always with him, always burning inside him. He needed more souls, always more... The Material Plane seemed to instead consume him. The thoughts distracted him, as he followed the fledgelings stealthily through the ruins. They've become even more weak and complacent since I was betrayed, he thought, But their souls will sustain me even still.
Raziel approached the pair, noting the iron spikes topping a nearby fence. They still had not taken notice of him, as they leisurely chatted about their latest kills, and the foolishness of mortals. Raziel approached them from behind, and prepared to do his work...

Raziel darts in, the Soul Reaver glowing fiercely in its hunger. He steps up behind the first of the fledgeling abominations, which whirls about to attack him, only to be met with the glowing wraith blade being rammed through the creature's chest. "Turelims...weaklings...fallen so far." His voice speaks out from his mouth, behind his cloth. Of course...he can't REALLY speak..seeing as how he has no jaw. His voice retains a somewhat ethereal quality to it.
