OOC: I have no idea where the 21 came from. Could you explain that?
X knew that he needed to take out the gun volt first as it was the biggest threat. Hopefully he could dodge some of the smaller ones. He took aim again at the gun volt's missle launcher and fired.
(attack gun volt - roll: 6 woo hoo!)

((Bro, the 21 is 18 (your base Atk) + 3 (the bonus from your weapon)...but I have no idea why Draxas added 3 to your damage instead of the 5 that you rolled.))
I-no quickly stepped up to Sol, brutally grinding her right foot into his back, between his shoulder blades. "...what, that's it? That's all you have for me you rat bastard?" She brought up her foot and slammed it down again...she didn't care if he was unconscious or not. "Hmph...you look good there with your face in the dirt..."

X
Bleargh. I either didn't notice your attack roll, or had 3s on the brain for some reason last night; my error has been corrected. Sorry.
As Razor said, the calculation goes:
[(Sum of base ATK stat + equipment bonuses) + (damage roll) - (Sum of target base DEF stat + equipment bonuses) =] Final damage total

Gun Volt takes [21+6-10=] 17 damage! Gun Volt has been defeated! X sets off a mine! X takes [20+5-19=] 6 damage!

I-No
Sol did not respond, and remained unmoving, face down in the dirt. However, from behind her, I-No heard the quiet yet authoritative voice of That Man.
"That is quite enough."

HA! One down. That mine hurt, but X ignored it. It just made him feel flashy. He had a job do. Now for the little guys. X takes aim at the first mine pooping SOB and fires.

I-no let out a low growl, digging her heel into his back one last time as she pushed back, not even turning around but continuing to glare hatefully at the fallen Sol, Marlene hanging down in front of her. "...why can't I just finish him off..."

X
In this particular case, no it doesn't matter, but it's always bad to assume...
Bomb Been #2 attempts to escape... [3] Success! Bomb Been #3 attempts to escape... [2] Failure! X attacks Bomb Been #3! Bomb Been #3 takes [21+2-0=] 23 damage! Bomb Been #3 has been defeated!
X earns 5 XP! X obtained skill data from Bomb Been: Minedropper!
X destroyed the second of the flyers, as the third turned about and fled toward the carrier and out of weapons range, presumably to reload its ordnance. He examined the wreckage of the mechanoids, and was surprised to find an intact weapons unit on one of the Bomb Beens. As he touched it, he was surprised to find his Buster unit downloading data from the equipment, and before long, a new weapons configuration appeared in his internal schematics, ready for use.

I-No
That Man gazed at I-No, in his typical stern-yet-emotionless demeanor.
"You understand so little of my plans, and yet you presume to know so much," he said, approaching her, "My old friend Frederick is, and always has been, a reliable and predictable catalyst for my plans."
"You, on the other hand," he continued, stopping a short distance in front of her, his voice taking on an unfamiliar edge, "You, who understand so little, have nearly done irreparable damage to those very same plans in the name of eliminating my supposed enemies. Between those false bounty contracts and your fixation with Justice's daughter, you were very close to ruining everything. Many of those you think are my enemies, are simply unknowing pawns, key players in a grander scheme. The crisis is averted; I had to manipulate certain... elements less subtly than I would have liked, but everything is back in its place to fulfill the destiny I have chosen. But your actions nearly had grave consequences indeed."
"Now that you understand a bit better, would you care to try to explain why you acted without my consent in this manner?"

X knew that he had to continue on and get to the source of these mechanoids. Perhaps this new weapon could help...though for now, it seemed impractical. Making sure to keep a sharp eye out for more trouble, he took off at a sprint to the east once again.

X
X ran along the damaged and increasingly deserted highway. Even the damaged vehicles abruptly stopped after a certain point... And then he saw why.
X skidded to a halt mere steps before the elevated highway simply vanished. It looked like some sort of massive weapon was used to blast a large section of the highway completely loose, leaving a gap in the roadway. As X glanced back, he could now see that what he had initially thought was simple grooves in the pavement was actually a scoring pattern left behind by the blast, caused as the shockwave sent all manner of debris flying away from the point of impact.
The gap in the highway wasn't extremely wide at its edges, however, and X got the impression he could probably leap across there if he was careful. However, as he examined the situation, he began to hear the distinctive sound of a helicopter rotor, and saw a large shadow begin to loom in the smoky air ahead...
