Firstly, I should say welcome to the PDBA. you most likely already know about it, having heard from a friend, but i'll go ahead and explain what it is.
The Perfect Dark Battle Arena, better known as the PDBA, has been around for some time. Started by Dr.Doak about 2 years ago, Dark181st took it to a new limit by adding several new modes and versions. PDBA is an upscale RPG battling "game" where we build up character plot through missions and arena battles. Role-playing your character from a 3rd person point of view, you engage in combat with other PDBAers, communicate, and form alliances.
Different people have different styles of posting, and most of the vets are good examples. Here are basic guidelines and rules to follow as you play:
________________________________
- You role-play your invented character (which is made in the "profiles" board) from a 3rd person point of view.
- You can read This Arena as an example of how to play.
- Your profile is created from a Specific Outline which you can fill out to create your character. People then read your profile when they want to interact with you in an arena. Then, they can be accurate with your description.
- When you are ready to make a profile, go to the Profiles Board to make it.
- The Archives contain lots of information on things that you would want to know. There is a separate site administrated by EJ, one of the first PDBAers. It was only just recently made, so there's a lacking in content, but you're still welcome to check it out here.
- Read through the archives for all the information you should need. if there is something you are unsure of, ask about in the PDBA Board. If you want a guide or set of information added to the Archives, you can request one in either the PDBA Board, or in the Site Operations board.
- After you've made your character, feel free to enter an arena. Frequently, when you "enter" an arena, you have to transport yourself there, rather than just appearing. This can be done by using your ship (as is most commonly done), or by using teleporters (see next dash for information on teleporters).
- Teleporters, are things we sort of added to the arenas. At the edges of the level, you'll find elevated platforms with a light yellow light being cast straight into the air. These are intended to transport ship-less people from arena-to-arena. They are automatically set, so you just have to step on it, and it'll get you to the next arena.
- Vehicles are quite handy, and are used in alot of arenas. Of course, you get to invent one for your own use. See the outline in the
Outline from before.
- Each arena has its own respective set of rules. The first post will usually contain those rules. If a Moderator makes an arena, they might leave the rules out and just tell you to look them up in the archives. if so, then you must come back to the archives and read them yourself.
- Follow the rules for each arena. I don't like being a discipline-nazi, so there won't be too strict punishments for breaking the rules. If you break the rules in an arena, you will simply be reminded by another member or mod that it was not in alignment with the rules, and will be asked to modify it.
- When you die, you respawn with your weapons. ships respawn as well. You CANNOT pick up a weapon from a dead person. you'll have to figure out a "new" way of obtaining it.
________________________________
There are many "un-written" laws of the PDBA, that you won't be punished for, but alot of people don't like them. Here are tips, strategies, and "rules" to help you be accepted by the vets as a "good" PDBAer.
________________________________
- If a group of people are involved with an accepted duel, or are trying to discuss forming an alliance, don't waltz in and kill them. People greatly dislike this, and will be one of the most hated acts of a new person. 80% of all new people do this, so just try to avoid messing up with people who are busy.
- If you are trying to make an alliance with someone, you can ask them in an IC (in character) post in an arena. in their next post, they will respond and tell you if they want to or not. if they say "no", most people are honorable enough to just walk away saying something like "but next time, i expect a good fight". If they just say "no", don't kill them. it sets you up as being an unhonorable warrior and won't be liked much.
- Try to keep things to the Perfect Dark theme. Makes things seem unrealistic if you're in your ship eating pizza while watching "the simpsons" or something like that.
- be as descriptive as possible; the best way to get accepted by the vets. if your post is "N3B walked into the room and shot Phoenix." people will be unlikely to ever interact with you, unless to kill you. try to put more into your posts. more is better.
- Good spelling and grammar is key; if your posts are too hard to understand, people will just ignore you. if you're unsure about a spelling, there is a spell checker in the bottom of each window. type in the word, and a new window will pop-up and say if you've spelled it right, and then provide suggestions for words if it's wrong.
- Be clear when talking OOC (out of character) and IC (in character). it can be rather confusing when in a post you read:
.
So, please mark with "OOC" and "IC" if you are going to be doing both. if you're making a post with any "OOC" discussion, it will automatically be assumed that your post is IC, so you don't need to mark that.

alrighty, that's all i can think of. if any other Mod has anything they'd like to ad, please feel free to. New people, if you have any questions, ask in the PDBA Board
