Once again, I wish I had a graphical map. Straying from the main road for a while would put you right inside the Irons' farm. I'm going to work under the assumption that that's not what you intended.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ranger struck out from Kestral, headed east towards the city of Lesko. While he followed the road along the western edge of the Irons' farmland for a time, once he was sure that he was well past the boundries of their property, he struck out into the plains once more.
Once again the calm of the meadows surrounded him, as the only movement was the gentle swaying of the grass in the breeze. For some miles Ranger hiked eastward through the tranquil plains, undisturbed by man and beast.
However, as he continued to move ahead, he noticed that the grasses were slowly starting to die off. He looked out into the horizon, and saw that the meadows transitioned from verdant green to sickly brown fairly quickly in the direction he was headed. There also was something else ahead, though at this distance it was impossible to identify; it merely stood out as a strange shape against the sky. The dead grasses seemed to be emanating from whatever it was...

I just bump into all kinds of bad news in this direction ohhh well.
IC: Ranger walked toward the center of this disturbing area trying to figure out what was at the heart of this decay.

Well, you ARE looking for trouble. Wouldn't it be disappointing if you couldn't find any?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ranger headed toward the strange object ahead. He had only gone a short distance before he noticed the brown grasses underfoot start to crackle and snap underneath his feet; whatever had caused them to die had literally sucked all of the life right out of them. However, other than the dead grasses, there was no other sign that anything was amiss...
As Ranger drew closer to whatever was ahead, it began to become slightly more clear. Whatever it was, it was huge; based on the size of the silhouette, it had to be at least 20 feet tall or more. It also seemed to be vaguely egg-shaped, with the pointier end standing up towards the sky.
As Ranger turned his eyes away from the unknown object, he spotted some scattered patches of greenery among the brown, dead grasses ahead.

"How peculiar..."Ranger said in puzzlement as he kept advancing toward it to inspect it closer.

Ranger continued to move forward toward the giant, egg-shaped object. As he did so, the source of the scattered patches of greenery became evident.
As he drew nearer to one green patch, Ranger was able to see that its source was a small plant. It had a series of green tendrils spreading from it in many directions, each one protruding out of the ground slightly before it turned downward and tunneled underneath the soil, pushing up the dead grasses nearby. From the center of this network of tendrils rose a slender stem, and perched atop this stem was a large, round, bulbous structure. It swayed to and fro, moreso than the light breeze would seem to indicate was natural...
Now that Ranger had a good look at this particular plant, he glanced around, and was able to identify ALL of the patches of greenery as being from the same species. In fact, as he looked toward the mysterious object still in the distance, he could see that the plants that lay in that direction seemed larger and more well established than the ones nearby him, which were little more than the equivalent of saplings.

As Ranger bent down to examine and attempt to touch the plant, it suddenly swayed in his direction, and shot a barbed seed directly at him from a small orifice in the top of the bulb!

Ranger punctured the plant's bulb several times with arrows, causing it to ooze a thick liquid from the puncture wounds. The stem swayed over as if to strike once again, and then simply flopped to the ground unceremoniously and was still.

Ranger obtains a dead Spitter Weed.
As Ranger cut the plant free, more sticky sap oozed from the severed stalk onto the blade of his knife. The substance was difficult to clean off, and not only made the blade into a smeary, sticky mess when he tried, but also seemed to stain the material it came into contact with a light shade of yellow.
Ranger bagged the plant bulb, and headed back the way he had come. Since the plants did not lie in that direction at all, it was little effort and no trouble to reach the point where the grass began to turn green once again.

Ranger ventured into the wilderness from Lesko and headed toward where he had found the plants before quickly making his way to one of the smaller buds on the outside. He readied his bow and nocked the arrow

Ranger trekked out into the wilderness to the southwest of Lesko, searching for the area of dead grass he had stubled on before. He was ready for battle, and expecting to retrieve another plant quickly.
He wasn't quite so enthused several hours later, when he finally found the beginning of the dead grasses. Apparently the plants were a good deal farther from civilization than he had expected, which would likely explain why nobody had stumbled on them before.
It was a rather simple task for Ranger to find an isolated sapling near the edge of the point where they began growing.

This time around, Ranger's second strike severed the stem, saving him the trouble of having to cut the bulb free as well as minimizing the damage to the plant. Ranger quickly collected the detached plant part and dropped it into his bag.

What a good place to train IC: Ranger quickly went over and grabbed up the dead spitter weed and tucked it away in his satchel that he had used before. He quickly began at a light jog back toward Lesko as to not let the Spitter weed become to battered before getting back.
