My, how mature.
I never really understood the point of social networking sites. I mean, maybe I might tell people I care about that I'm getting married in November, but the whole internet? Why the hell would they care? Never mind what I ate for breakfast this morning or what I'm thinking about at work or what the cats did after dinner.

that's the thing.. it's exciting business. i like everyone and his dog to know i have a 22 year old girlfriend, my guitar string broke, i got 'so wasted last night' and share song lyrics.
also, getting married? intense. that's some dedication. high five.

Facebook can be a useful tool, the advantage being that you can use it however you want to. Just having an account doesn't mean that you have to embrace the stereotypes of social networking (constant status updates, blogs, picture sharing and commenting, etc). It's really nice to keep in touch with people over long distances -- friends from high school, who are going to different schools across the country, for example.
You can keep your profile extremely private and pick and choose your settings for who sees what, by sorting people into various categories -- close family, extended family, close friends, associate/peripheral friends, internet friends, random people you know but aren't really friends with, and so forth.

it's a very useful tool for keeping in touch, i think. all of my friends are all at the 'spreading their wings' stage of their life where they're all moving to different places for school and work. it's a great way to interact, heh. hell, it's just a useful site altogether, and the best timewaster in the world.. next to videogames.
my profile is wholly public i believe, apart from information like my cellphone number which is only available to friends. but you can limit your information to whomever you choose, like n3b said. if privacy was an issue, anyway.
hop on the bandwagon, everyone. haha.
