the 7800. which isn't.. too bad. but it's gonna suck when they start requiring DX10 cards for games.

Well, I can safely sit back and laugh at those requirements, but I admitedly wouldn't have my current specs if I weren't in college. Otherwise I'd still be using my desktop which would not quite meet minimum. *shrug*

... Or, you could play the console version instead.
This is the primary reason that I've pretty much given up on PC gaming almost completely at this point. I can't afford to perform massive upgrades on my system every 6 months just to play these games. It's doubly silly when there is an equivalent version being released simultaneously for a (much less powerful) console system.
Besides, it's not like this game looks all that good, anyway. It's a rental at best.

I imagine once my current laptop becomes out-dated to run the new games I'll get an Xbox 3000. The Xbox (from my understanding) is becoming more and more like a PC anyway.

Actually, with the pace of computer technology advancing the way it is, odds are that the 360 will still be alive and kicking when your laptop is outdated. That's basically why the $400 investment is much more efficient than however many thousand dollars, assuming you're only interested in playing games. And, while I understand that you need the new PC for school, you certainly don't need that kind of power for any application other than gaming.
But than again, I'm probably one of the most jaded PC gamers you'll ever meet; I've been upgrading hardware to try to keep pace with games since the days of the 8088, 5 1/4" floppies, and monochrome monitors.

that's fair enough, really - unless you have an incredible amount of money to burn, it's quite obvious that for gaming, consoles win out, price wise. the only reason to have a computer with that power would be for gaming, or for doing video editing, game creation, modeling, stuff like that. next computer i'm getting will have only like a 7800 in there, but with 2GB-4GB of RAM, the fastest processor i can afford, a few hundred gigs of space, an M-Audio soundcard and firebox, and a mobo with more USB 2.0 and firewire slots than i can count. mmm, home recording and media center. drool.

well there are still certain things that you just can't do on a console.
