My main difficulty with drums is developing the speed and muscle memory to move my hands back and forth to the different heads - it's also the only thing I can't practice mentally. I already tap out full-body beats to whatever I'm listening to, which of course helps tremendously, but learning the actual movements from one head to another, especially for more advanced tom rhythms, is something that can only be learned by doing it.
Also, studies show that anywhere between 60-80% of an activity is mental. I remember reading a story about a guy who was kept in a 6x4 foot cage for 5 years. To keep his sanity, he mentally rehearsed golfing at his favorite grounds. When he came back to that spot years later, he shot all 18 holes perfectly. Awesome, no?

yeah i think that's one of the things you just have to work out a pattern, then do it incredibly slowly and work it up again. painfully slow sometimes but it works.
that's very interesting.. maybe i should dream about playing drums more often.
i've been having urges to learn harp recently. but they're so bloody expensive.

The weird thing about the hammer dulcimer is the way the notes are laid out. There are (IIRC) 4 instances of some notes, and only 2 of others, for no apparent reason.

maybe some sound better in unison than others, or something to do with chordal things. that reminds me, i have an out of tune piano out the back. some of the keys are on pitch but one of the strings is slightly off so i have a cool chorusy effect. sounds terrible with chords though.

I enjoy the baseline but honestly wish someone would just hurry up and shoot their lead singer already. His political agenda is so beyond [CENSORED]ed. Why doesn't he like Bush(Not to say there aren't reasons to hate him)? Bush may be wrong on many levels about things but he was an alright president for the most part and does in no way deserve to be assassinated nor does the government deserve to be brought up on war crimes. If they bring ours up on it that would open almost everyone up to it for something or another in there history that they did wrong. Though I won't say that Iraq is wrong nor is our continued presence there. I do honestly believe that those bastards would follow our hippie tail between the leg army home if we brought them home. Al Qaeda would take it as a sign of weakness as would the entire middle east. Iraq's current government if it didn't fall quickly would be overrun by one of their bordering enemies no doubt. Iran has every reason to be afraid of us but as long as they keep the hard feelings on their side and don't keep smashing a stick against an angry beehive then we'll leave em be. Honestly what do they expect is going to happen if they go into open conflict with us. They are absolutely developing nuclear power that they cannot be trusted to use for the right reasons and in no way for war purposes.

I think it would be ill advised to start a political discussion in this thread.

I didn't mean it that way, really. I'm just getting sick of constant political debates is all. It's just the primaries, anyway.

I'm with Chris Rock on this one - anyone who makes up their mind on an issue before they've heard the issue is an idiot. That's about as far as my political views go. Parties and the different political stereotypes are about as compelling for me as moldy cheese. Except that moldy cheese is pretty compelling, in that I am compelled to throw it out.
Forget it.

to be honest, the only reason i know what i am is because i took that fancy political compass quiz. put me down there with nelson mandela and ghandi, baby.
besides. 'leftist social libertarian' is a fancy name.

Caught MC Chris at the Catalyst last Saturday. It was really enjoyable however it seems like he does some kind o pseudo lip syncing thing....like he sings(raps) over his songs tracks (including vocals). I noticed he was just working off his laptop hooked into the sound system which might have something to do with it, but it just seemed odd.

that's a bit of an unprofessional way to go about it.. you think he'd at least remove the main vocal track. maybe keep the harmonies. strange. he's still f'ing awesome.
