they might have taken liberties with some parts or the person who "made the song" might have omitted where he procured it from.

To reitterate what Draxas said, The song, lyrics and music, was written by Neil Cicierega aka Trapazoid aka Lemon Demon. If you've followed what he does up to recent you find that he has stated that he is influenced by They Might be Giants and similar "Geek" Bands, which explains why you might think it was by TMBG. If you haven't already heard it another good song he did was: Ebaum's World Sucks.
