Heh, this brings up another interesting topic: what happens when Overlords want to play too. I should think another overlord would control quests and such, but that's not what I'm getting at. Let's face it, everyone here has particular items that are considered "part" of their character. Notesurfer has Darkmatter, Niff has Fusion, Razor has Chaoverge, I have Heavenshard, and it's funny how they all happen to be swords . The point being, we will want OUR weapon to be our ultimate weapon, because let's face it, who wouldn't be disappointed if their painstakingly detailed and crafted weapon was outmatched by a plain vanilla broadsword? This also lends itself to the question of "unique" profiles (mine springs to mind, yeah, I know, I'm nothing but trouble ). To use myself as an example (though certainly not the only one), this world would simply be another dimension to drop into. As is typical, I would bring my equipment along, and therein lies the trouble. How to account for all the high-tech guns? Heavenshard? Razor (assuming he used the same character) would have a similar problem: how do you lose possession of a weapon that is integrated into your soul? Ha, I'm just chock full of interesting questions today, eh? Though I must say, this is the largest flurry of activity I've ever seen on this board. Speaks volumes about how much of a Good Thing TM this RPG has the potential to be.

i think i posted this somewhere; when an overlord wants to play, another overlord has to post their dungeon encounters, puzzles, alliance requests. for example, say draxas was an overlord, and we were both playing. i could not post "so and so want to join a party" and then post saying that i accepted him. rather, draxas would post the request, and then i'd respond.
general note about overlords: when posting from the overlord stand point, you post [shadow=red,left,300]in shadw[/shadow]. when you're posting as an adventurer, you just post normally.

as for "personal weapons" such as fusion, heavenshard, darkmatter, etc..... this is NOT the pdba, do not confuse the two. given, most of you will keep your PDBA aliases since they also serve as your general internet aliases, nothing else from the PDBA transfers. if you want to have your special weapon, live without it. i suppose you could choose to use your special weapon once you have obtained the ability to use a PerfectDark weapon.
eventually, i plan to allow Perfect Dark guns, (you'd have to be a certain level to use them). if you ask nicely, an overlord may let you go on a quest for your personal item.

Hrm... I have a hunch that I wouldn't be the only one that wants to use the same character background as in the PDBA. Not that I couldn't make a new character, but...
Don't get me wrong, I'd ditch most of the stuff on my PDBA profile, but a few of those things are really integral to what Draxas has become over the span of the 10 or so years I've cultivated the character concept. Specifically, the blade, the integrated weapons, the bionics themselves... I'm not willing to part with these particularly much.

Ok, so, no personal items?

the only way i could figure this, is that there's something odd in the PDBA that causes us to get sent to this RPG thing and lose all memory of everything. you can keep your "special" weapon, but it will SUCK since you don't remember anything, at all. you can then upgrade your weapon at an upgrade shop for 400 exp or something to add +5 to the damage, or some other odd thing.

And Zaber comes along with me but won't wake up so I have to pay 1000+ experience and not have any other dudes like Reldo in my party? lol

Hrm... OK, not bad. I personally can think of a good reason why Heavenshard wouldn't be immediately available, and that would require a quest to "activate". On the other hand, I figured I would save this for when I have the PD weapons available to me, and not have to upgrade... Maybe this method is better, but then it become a question of whether it's more prudent to upgrade a weapon or our stats... I think questing for our items would probably be better. Anyway, I would have it so I would lose the weapon, and have to quest (fairly early) to get it. It would be a lesser version of itself (the spirit has been unbound from the blade, making it essentially a mundane katana), but still usable. Later on, when the PD weapons become available, I would quest again to rebind the spirit to the blade, restoring the weapon to it's former power (sort of like the before/after Masamune in Chrono Trigger). The integrated guns would likewise be lost, though I would quest for these only once the PD weapons were available, and wouldn't have to upgrade them. I realize this pretty much negates what I was saying before, sorry... I think the whole "loss of all weapons" is better than starting with an upgradable weapon, but see what others say. And oh yeah, I would think the bionics would reflect in my appearance only, so let's try to avoid having those torn out of my body .

alrighty, you can keep you bionic-ness. as for the weapons, i think each person will get ONE specialized quest which they take on to get their Uber weapon.
curse you guys, i'm doing this and tpying my science project report at the same time. the world would be so much better if we didn't have to do these stupid experiments/reports.

Personally N3B, here's what I think we should do. For 1000 exp or so, we can fuse our weapons. When doing this they combine attack power and defense power. And we can choose what the new weapon is. This Dark Cloud 2 approach makes it so that we can do three things to get stronger: 1. Quest for better weapons/armor 2. Upgrade our current weapons/armor for exp 3. Fuse our weapons/armor for massive exp, and massive DAMAGE!!

I'd like to be able to make my staff available in the game as well. I like the idea of having a quest for your weapon, and I like Note's idea of being able to fuse weapons to make them stronger.
Ooh! Idea! What if...you could fuse your weapon with magic Red Mage-style in order to deal more damage to the opponent? Probably obvious, but oh well. Anyway, since most people are choosing "elements" for their characters, maybe your ultimate weapon would have that element already ingrained into it. Niff's Fusion would have Lighting infused, Note would have Darkmatter as...darkness, etc.
Niffuberedit: Zaber is me wolf spirit, Fusion is my uber 1337 broadsword.
