Upon entering an ancient cathedral, you walk down the center aisle along the brightly colored carpet. In the pews, you see several people praying and focusing.
At the altar, you look at a stone tablet, placed on top. From it, you read how to train your Intelligence.

Ranger walked into the church and asked a person quickly where brother gerard was. The person pointed over to one of the monks and Ranger walked over to him.
"Brother Gerard," Ranger said to get his attention,"I have recently found a large growth outside of town and was told to come see you about it."

Brother Gerard was a wizened old monk, whose face creased with a myriad of laugh lines as he smirked at Ranger's comment.
"Well well, my boy, that sounds like a rather personal problem to me!" he said, and chuckled. This drew some curious, and some angry glares from the other people inside the otherwise quiet church.
"Hmmm," said Brother Gerard, lowering his voice to a whisper, "It seems these folks don't appreciate my humor. Come with me, so we can discuss your little problem without involving the whole congregation. That would be terribly embarassing!"
Grinning widely, the old monk beckoned for Ranger to follow, and entered a small door in the back of the main hall.

Ranger followed him into a seperate part of the church away from the congregation where he was sure he was to hear more than just a few wise cracks from this monk.

Brother Gerard led Ranger down a short hallway and into a library. Though a rather small room by most standards, it was nonetheless filled with books; bookshelves lined every wall of the room, and each was packed so tightly that it seemed impossible to exapnd the collection at all without having to go to a different room. However, a clean space in the center of the room was occupied by a small, low table, and two simple cushioned chairs.
"Come, sit," said Brother Gerard, as he beckoned to one of the chairs. He seated himself in the other as he said, "I trust you have something important to tell me, since most folks don't bring up their embarassing personal problems with the local clergy."
The old monk's face creased up again, and it was easy to tell he was having a good personal laugh at Ranger's expense.

Ranger pulled out the plant in his pocket and laid it down on the table.
"I found a large amount of these just outside of Lesko off the crossroads. In the center of them all there was a huge one that stood about the size of a giant," Ranger said, "I was told you're something of a botanist and that you would have the best idea on how to handle it."

"Oh my, let me see that," said Brother Gerard, suddenly taking on a much more serious demeanor. He lifted the plant to eye level, and began shifting it around in his hands to get a good look at every angle. It was then that Ranger noticed how much of a toll the time and rigors of travelling around had taken on the plant; it was covered in its own dried sap (just like the inside of Ranger's bag, he noted with dismay), and parts of it were starting to dry out and break off. Apparently these plants didn't do very well without being attached to the ground...
"I have never seen a plant like this before," said Brother Gerard after several long minutes of studying the specimen. He placed the plant back on the table, and looked earnestly back at Ranger.
"I would like to study this further, if you don't mind," he said, "This is a fascinating specimen that I have never seen in my books, nor in the wild. I would like to learn more about it, that is, if you wouldn't mind giving it up."

Ranger gives up a dead spitter weed.
"Oh, thank you," said Brother Gerard, "However, I wonder if I could trouble you for another favor? While this specimen is fascinating on its own, and I'm sure I could learn much from it, I was wondering if you would be able to retrieve a fresh one; this one seems to have knocked around quite a lot, and I think I could learn more from a fresher plant cutting. That is, if you're not too busy and can spare the time to humor this old man's curiosity."

"Well I will try to get you another but it seems a bit risky. There are a bunch of those little ones and what if something sets them all off..." Ranger said worried, "I'll figure something out I'll be back shortly with another one for you"

"I thank you," said Brother Gereard, nodding, "In the meanwhile, I will study this specimen and learn what I can. Be cautious, and may the gods go with you."
"Now let's see, perhaps I should start with Krieger's Atlas of Plants..." he mumbled aloud, turning to a bookshelf, suddenly seemingly oblivious to Ranger's presence.

Ranger stood up and exited the church quietly ignoring some of the looks from the group in the main room.

Shortly after getting back to the gates of town Ranger was at the church again he quickly and quietly made his way around the back and side of the church and toward the library that the monk had been in before.

Ranger headed to the small door he had gone through before from the main room of the church, but was stopped by a young monk.
"Excuse me, but the areas back there are for the clergy only," he said to Ranger. However, he quickly recognized him, and said, "Ah, but wait. You are the one with the growth problem. Brother Gerard said he was expecting you. Please follow me."
The monk led Ranger through the door and back to the study that Brother Gerard had taken him to before. Sure enough, the old monk was there, poring over a tome on the table. There was no sign of the plant Ranger had left with him earlier.
As the two men entered the room, the younger monk bowed and left, while Brother Gerard looked up from his book.
"My, you've returned much sooner than I expected!" he said, closing the cover of his book, "Does this mean you have another specimen for me?"

"I rushed right out and grabbed one for you. Be careful about the sap its a little ... odd," Ranger said opening the pouch and handing over the spitter weed sapling.
"It's a little further out from town than I had thought but its still in your vicinity and should be looked after accordingly if it is a threat," Ranger informed Gerard,"That said I hope your research proves useful."
