Megaman X represents a revolution in robotics: he is the first robot able to think, feel, and make decisions independently. X was originally constructed in 20XX by the greatest robot designer of his time, and possibly ever, Dr. Thomas Light. However, Dr. Light elected to seal X inside a diagnostics capsule for reasons still unknown, and X was locked away from the world for many long years. By the time X was recovered from his capsule by an archaeologist named Dr. Cain, his creator and all of his other creations had long since passed into memories and legends.
However, X remained years ahead of then-current robotics technology, and so Dr. Cain did his best to replicate his unique systems in an effort to create the next generation of robots. The result was a new series of robots that became known as Reploids, who were capable of decision making and free will in the same way as X. The reploids were hailed as an incredible breakthrough, and were quickly ushered into mass production. Before long, humans and reploids were working side by side in all walks of life.
Before long, however, some of the reploids turned dangerous, putting both humans and reploids alike at serious risk. These rogue reploids became known as Mavericks, and the dangers posed by them quickly became so great that the regular police forces of the world were not able to contain their threat effectively any longer. In response, a multinational peacekeeping force of reploids known as the Maverick Hunters was created to deal with the emerging Maverick threat. Commanded by Sigma, the latest model reploid who was both a tactical genius and touted to be immune to turning Maverick, the Maverick Hunters enjoyed great success for a time, and incidents of Mavericks endangering others dropped off sharply.
However, it was not to last. Sigma personally led a mission pursuing a dangerous maverick into the ruins of a recently unearthed laboratory. Only several days after he personally struck down and apprehended the maverick, Sigma and most of the Maverick Hunters went maverick themselves, claiming that reploids were superior to humans and deserved to rule in their place. The remaining Maverick Hunters, now led by mysterious newcomer Zero, valiantly attempted to stop Sigma and his now well organized force of mavericks, but were repelled.
Deeply disturbed by the crisis that he indirectly was responsible for creating, X asked Dr. Cain to modify him for combat so that he could aid the Maverick Hunters. Dr. Cain grudgingly obliged him, fitting him with armor and buster technology that he had discovered in the ruins of Dr. Light's lab, but had kept secret until then. As prepared as possible, X departed in an attempt to confront and defeat Sigma's forces...

X is a powerful fighter who relies on his built-in combat systems, which focus primarily around buster technology. Though he is incapable of using magic, he has a special adaptive technique system which allows him to internalize new techniques by analyzing the data from defeated foes. As such, he has the potential to amass a huge and devastating collection of techniques. He also possesses excellent attack and defense capabilities, which are hampered only by his less-than-ideal agility, and relative vulnerability to unnatural forces.
X is proficient in the use of Attachment Weaponry only, and is unable to use shields. He can, however, equip a second weapon in his off hand. He also has a chance to learn new techniques at the end of any battle in which he (or his allies) defeat mechanical foes. X can only learn a single technique from a given enemy type in this fashion, and for most encounters, has a fixed 10% chance to do so.
