( I was hoping that piercing rounds could get through cover... )
Piercing attacks CAN penetrate cover... But only if that cover has the "thin" attribute.
By the way, this is technically a double post. I will let it slide this once because of all the strangeness before it, but please be aware of this in the future.

*shoots any non optional in the area* if this is a new area completely. If it is just tactically better to hit the tower gaurds then *shoots the tower gaurd 1*
This is, of course, a new area, otherwise it wouldn't be an exit. It will, of course, give you guys a better time hitting those two guards... Opportunities like this will likely arise often. But from now on, please wait for the area to "load into memory" before you try to do stuff there, otherwise the game might "crash" (ie. I won't be able to keep up very well, and mistakes will happen).
This post is also being ignored.

The team rushes behind the watchtower before the guards can respond. The group fans out in another open, sandy area. Directly behind them is the watchtower, which was apparently not designed to be approached by hostiles from the rear, and is much more open. To their left lies a helipad enclosed by a chain-link fence, though a man-sized hole has been cut through a section of the fence, allowing passage without climbing. The helipad seems strangely abandoned, and some sort of object lies at its center. Directly ahead is the entrance to the tunnel, which passes the entire way through the cliff at a downward slope, and emerges into another sandy area beyond. A Security Guard is making his way up the tunnel towards the team, but has not yet spotted anything amiss. However, moments later, the two guards in the tower reposition themselves in the back entrance, and take their aim...
Please note that this room contains the first instance of a Special Object. Special Objects can be interacted with by both Players and Sims, and perform various functions depending on the item. As Special Objects are encountered, their rules will be described.
Special Object: The Main Gate Switch - This Switch can be used to open and close the Main Gate of the Area 51 complex. It can only be accessed from inside the watchtower, so in order for a player to interact with it, they must be in cover in one of the watchtower locations. Activating the Switch is a post ending action, and its effects will begin immediately.

I just realized the irony of the situation... Ranger has a past at Area 51. It was where he began the PDBA... He was away on other business with dD at the time Joanna came through for the game. but he originally was a top level gaurd for Area 51. Now he is attempting to sneak in and penetrate it.. Does anyone else see how funny this is...

OOC: *Insert a Huge line of cussing* D***, Metroid Prime is addicting, and I missed it,if I go for the Rocket launcher and shield, I get Pwned by autoguns, if I wait longer both will have been claimed, unless you put the Autoguns to Unaware, highly unlikely, I get Pwned, If I open the gate we have to deal with the damned autoguns, gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I need a partner, I'll split the rewards, I get the Rocket or sheild you get the other. P.S. Draxas, what if I knock the gaurd, the one with the key card out, will there be a Pheonix, and the other Falcon 2 Siclencer, and the sheild, what about them. Wait! Can it be I see a Magsec! Yes you do Raanger, just be careful...
Ranger's perspective: Cover = The Main Gate Switch (Destroyable - 5/5 HP): 5%, Capacity = 1 (Security Guard 1)
Everyone else has the standard 50% shot, but has a 0% chance to hit the switch with stray fire.
Also, the Security Guard has a clear shot at you, if he's inclined to actually take it.
*Switches back to Falcon 2s, and fires at Security Guard 1.*

Moves to Helipad to pick up the strange object, which is a rocket launcher.
OOC: Okay, If I go to pick up teh sheild and Rocket Launcher, I'll get Pwned by the autoguns, now if I knock out the gaurd who has the key card, will we get a Pheonix later on, like in the game, what about the Siclenced Falcon 2 under the explosive barrel, anyways I'm asking. Now, I missed out on a MagSec, because I played alot of Metroid Prime, so I get pissed, and then when I go down to see the status, (I'm in the posting area, when you scroll down you see all the posts on the page) I see there is a MagSec! So I add in that I claim it, got it. Okay, well that explains it.
Security Guard 1 shoots Merlin as the team leaves the area.
As for all your questions: Wait and see.
