Ranger decided to keep watch for them as they slept. He had enough action that sleep couldn't get him. He needed to relax but sleep wasn't on the plate for him. He sat and reflected. "How will I explain this all to my people?" he thought. He hoped dearly this head of an orc warcheif would soothe the differences between them. He knew his best shot was Kestral if news had reached all the towns by now. At least he was familiar with the guard there and would be given a chance to explain himself. He let the warm sun wash over him and rejuvinate him waiting for his companions to stir.

Ranger was not allowed much time to relax. He had only been sitting for a short time when he began to feel the distinct and uneasy sensation of being watched... His eyes darted around, instantly alert and searching for threats, but there was nobody nearby that he could see, not even on the horizons. Nonetheless, the sensation lingered, and he felt very exposed and vulnerable out in the open...

Thinking the invisible ally had returned, Ranger came to with a start. He couldn't see him and wasn't sure it was him or perhaps someone else. He woke the others and suggested being on their way again.

The others hadn't even had time to sleep anyway, so rousing them was hardly difficult. As Ranger hoisted the shaman onto his shoulders once more, he thought he spotted brief flicker of heat-haze, despite the fact that it didn't seem hot enough for it to have logically been generated... But it vanished as quickly as it came.

Ranger set out again towards the Dungeon of Eternal Turmoil.

Despite the rather severe fatigue that was beginning to set in, Ranger and his companions pressed on towards the east. The journey was becoming more arduous with every step, as the lack of rest coupled with the extra burden of carrying the shaman made progress much more difficult than it would have been otherwise. Ranger was thankful, at least, that the previous day's blistering heat had not made itself manifest thus far.
They continued to progress back toward the Dungeon, but it did nothing to relieve Ranger's feelings of being observed at every step. In fact, he was quite convinced that they were being followed, though there was still no visible pursuit... The sensation raised the hairs on the back of his neck, but kept his adrenaline pumping to help counteract the steadily worsening fatigue.

"It's him, I know it!" Ranger thought to himself, "Why is he following us? Does he seek to kill the king too? I can't confront him and talk to him with Gulg and the shaman here. I don't even know if confronting him would leave me alive."
Ranger kept hoping to catch a glance out of the corner of his eye to see the heat haze he was sure was there somewhere following.

Ranger glanced around as they continued eastward, now wary for the presence of a near-invisible travelling companion. And he did catch split second glimpses of what seemed like haziness in the air, but it could also have been his mind playing tricks from being so on edge... Either way, it always seemed to be for the tiniest moment out of the corner of his eye.
"You seem troubled," said the shaman, after several minutes of observing Ranger's more paranoid disposition.

"We are being followed," Ranger said back to the shaman,"It was there when the orcs attacked us on the way out of the camp. I don't think it intends to hurt us but I am trying to keep track of it as best I can."

"What is it?" asked the shaman, as he glanced around warily, "I don't see anything for miles."

"That's cause it's invisible somehow. Probably a spell or an enchantment on something it's wearing. I keep catching it like vapors of heat out of the corner of my eye. It was there during our fight with the orcs when they slew you. It completely slaughtered one of them and then disappeared. It doesn't seem to want us harmed, yet, so let's not aggrivate it, or look too much into it, just keep a wary eye." Ranger said in a low cautious voice.

"I haven't seen it, though I'm not in any condition to try to use magical means to that end. It's very hard to concentrate through the pain... In any case, it doesn't seem to be an enemy, or at least not yet. So try not to worry about it so much."

"I am just keeping a wary eye to keep track of it." Ranger said. He continued hiking right along towards the Dungeon.

Some time passed before Ranger started to spot more familiar areas, along with the signs of being closer to human habitation. He spotted the distortion a few more times as they went, but as always, only in a fleeting fashion.
Eventually, the ruins of the ancient castle began to jut up above the horizon...
